Avenue Services provides grounds maintenance on the Blacon estate. Grounds maintenance means looking after grass and green spaces to ensure they are tidy. We also provide this service in communal areas and at housing for older people schemes run by Sanctuary Housing. Our grounds maintenance team delivers two levels of service – one in the summer (when grass grows quicker and needs cutting more regularly) and one in the winter. Hedges are cut twice a year, once in early summer and once in winter.
Summer grounds maintenance service
From early March through to October, grass will be cut regularly at all housing for older people schemes run by Sanctuary Housing, open spaces and communal gardens.
Useful to know:
- On the first cut of the season all grass will be cut and collected.
- All grass cuts after the first of the season will be cut and flown and all edges will be strimmed and paths blown free of grass.
- How regularly the grass is cut depends on the weather and the growing rate but typically it would be every two to three weeks.
- Hedges of housing for older people schemes run by Sanctuary Housing, open spaces and communal gardens start to be cut in May.
Winter grounds maintenance service
From November to February, we take the opportunity to prune shrubs outside of the main growing season. We prune all shrubs at housing for older people schemes run by Sanctuary Housing, open spaces and communal gardens. Hedges will also receive a second cut between November and February.
In snowy and icy weather, we grit pathways and access routes to our housing for older people schemes.
Trees
Residents are responsible for trees in their gardens unless they receive assisted gardening services. Trees on communal, sheltered and open spaces are inspected for safety and any tree surgery will only be undertaken on safety grounds.
Free gardening service
Avenue Services also delivers a free gardening service to Sanctuary Housing residents who are disabled or over 65 with no family living with them or within Chester.
The service includes four visits between April to October for grass cutting and two hedge cuts if required. The cut grass and garden waste will be disposed of using the resident’s green wheelie bins. To apply for this service, please contact us.
